Expedition

Volunteering

In order to complete the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh's Award you need to complete an expedition section. This is completed by attending a series of training sessions after school, a group presentation and completing a practice expedition and an assessed expedition.

Expedition Training

Successful applicants will be split into either group 1,2or3. Your training sessions begin after the Christmas holidays and you will need to attend either a Tuesday or Wednesday after school session in R19. Keep an eye on the DofE Calendar to check when your training sessions are.

Practice Expedition

The practice expedition is made on foot over a weekend. You will start a set walk on a Saturday morning (around 9:00am) and have to follow the planned route to a campsite. You will then need to camp, cook and clean up before completing a second days walk on the Sunday.

The practice expedition is usually in the Cambridgeshire region to keep costs down and to train you in local landmarks.

Assessed Expedition

The assessed expedition will mark your proficiency in the following areas:
        1) Route Planning
        2) Expedition Aim
        3) Equipment
        4) Navigation
        5) Camp Making
        6) Camp Breaking
        7) Cooking

You will need to complete each of these areas with no input from supervising teachers. The skills learnt in training and from the practice expedition are designed to make this easier.

Expedition Presentation

Following your expedition and after the Summer holidays, you and your group will need to make a presentation about your experiences whilst on assessment. More details will follow closer to the time.
